How to select correct anti reverse injection protection function

To prevent power source and DUT, power source product is designed to have a series of protection function including software protection and hardware protection. Software protection could flexibly set via menu panel but hardware protection has taken into account residual in circuit design. It is unchangeable normally.

Anti reverse injection protection of power source is the special item of these hardware protection items. Due to this protection is a double-edge sword, without correct selection, it may cause damage to DUT. Some power source install anti reverse injection diode to cut off the current from DUT to Power Supply under some test environment. It could prevent the damage to hardware circuit of power supply. Application introduction please check picture 1&2. However, in some test field such as motor-operated test filed, if customer does not think about absorb of reverse potential in circuit design of motor-operated appliances, installing anti reverse injection diode will cut off the absorb of reverse potential. This kind of reverse electromotive force will create high voltage which may breakdown DUT. Application introduction is as pictures 3 & 4.

Power supply could be applied in charge function. After charging, as picture1, because output terminal connect diode, it could stop voltage from positive and negative terminal of battery reverse injecting to power supply output capacitance. Without diode like picture 2, after charging, voltage from positive and negative terminal of battery reverse injecting to power supply output capacitance. At the meanwhile, other circuit could consume energy of battery.

During the test for motor application, when power stop output, motor will produce reverse potential. If the design of motor does not think about the absorb of reverse potential, like pictures 3, because the isolation of diode, power supply could not absorb the energy, voltage created by reverse potential may burn the motor. Without the diode, like picture 4, the reverse potential will be absorb by output capacitance from power supply. It could guarantee voltage of output terminal is in security range.
